GameDay this year.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help out at the GameDay 10K/5K on Sunday, February 5th in City Center Newport News. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs, and shift times range from 7am-12pm. Not only do you get to hang out with the awesome staff at Flat-Out, but you will be a crucial part of the event as you support, cheer and motivate our dedicated runners.
After your job is complete, you are invited to join us at the post-race area with a live DJ, Chick-fil-A Family Fun Zone, and a volunteer recovery area where we will have pizza available to you. If you are of age, you will also receive one complimentary beer ticket. All volunteers receive one free Chick-fil-A sandwich coupon!
Once we wrap up at the race, we are headed to Tradition Brewing Co. located just blocks from the finish line for a pre-Super Bowl party.

Get ready for a fun filled GoRed event with the Apprentice Schools Women’s Basketball Game on Feb. 6th, 2017. WiSE, the Apprentice School Students Association (ASSA) and the American Heart Association (AHA) will be hosting this year’s GoRed event in the Apprentice School’s 2nd floor lobby from 4:45-5:15pm. There will be a pre-presentation with guest speakers from the AHA and the opportunity to learn some heart health facts from a local pediatrician.
Set-up - meet on the second floor lobby at 4:00pm to help set up snacks, paperwork, misc for WiSE (and the AHA if needed)
Sign-in/welcome – 1 person to help the ASSA with will-call and collecting the tickets, please hold onto printed tickets and give to Heather Smith, you will be stationed on the first floor. 2nd person to please keep the door propped open and welcome folks to the GoRED event on the first floor
Escorts – being available to help anyone up and down the stairs and/or to take photos during the pre-presentation
Half-time show - help needed for corralling the kid participants and the making sure they have their “trinkets” for distribution. We’re also looking for help taking photographs and making sure everything is off the court prior to the 2nd half. Be ready to go down to the court for picture taking by 5:45, the half-time show will start around 5:50-5:55.
Food stations – helping scoop popcorn in the provided cups and setting up the waters for the pre-presentation
Cleanup – help clean everything up after the event is over
***All photos taken during this event to please send them to Heather Rugnetta or Heather Smith, details on how to do this will be given to all after Monday’s event.
All volunteers we ask to be at the apprentice school by 4 or 4:15 at the latest unless otherwise directed. Those volunteering for set-up need to please be there by 4 at the latest and are welcome to arrive earlier. Heather Smith will be heading to the school for set-up at around 2pm, if there are questions let Heather Rugnetta or myself know. Thank you all for your support and for volunteering to help us facilitate this event!
There will be light refreshments during the pre-presentation, free-giveaways, valuable heart health information and so much more!

The Maritime 8K - Start Line
March 12, 2017 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
If you are an early riser, we need your help to get the Maritime 8K started at the beautiful Newport News Victory Arch. Parking will be limited, so carpool with other Start Line Volunteers, if possible, then join the One City, One Celebration at the Victory Arch!
If you want to get in on the race coordination action, this is the opportunity for you. Assist the race management team with all pre-race, set-up, and execution of the race start by helping runners to get seeded into appropriate corrals. Parking will be challenging, so carpool if you can.
Minimum Age to Participate: You must be 18 or older to participate.
Inclement Weather Details: All events are rain, snow, or shine, so dress appropriately.
Technical Requirements: Must be familiar with the coordination of foot races.
Waiver Details: All volunteers must agree to the terms and conditions of USA Track & Field, Inc
